1Girl UCLA

Site Visits
Every week, each facilitator visits a site with her group in order to mentor girls in underprivileged communities around LA. During Freshman year, my site was at the Resolute Academy in Compton where I was working with eighth graders. We taught the girls important skills such as leadership and conflict resolution through games and different activities.
Curriculums
Even though 1Girl headquarters sends us curriculums to follow, we amend these curriculums in order to fit with the site (depending on the girl's ages and preferences). This means coming up with games and activities that are enjoyable yet help the girls understand the material. We would do this each week at our meetings.

Flyering and
fundraising
In order to raise money and recruit people for the club, we also have fundraiser on BRUIN walk on campus and flyer there as well.
Co-Publicity Director
This year I became co-publicity director for 1Girl. As a director of the club, my role is to make decisions with the rest of the board, create flyers and advertisements for our events, and keep up to date with our social media.

Covid Impact
Since we usually visit schools around LA, the pandemic disrupted our usual activities. However, this year we forged personal connects with the girls by writing pen pal letters, doing virtual site visits and sending out care packages.
