Business Development
In February 2021, I started as an intern on the Business Development team at OpenGate Capital, a private equity company specializing in corporate carveouts in LA. The Business Development team is responsible for deal origination and deciding which deals will be proceed down the pipeline. There are two sections: industrials and software. I work mainly with industrial deals.
Resonsibilities
My primary role as an intern is managing the deal pipeline. As deals proceed to different stages, it is my job to keep them up to date in DealCloud. In addition to this, I work on Phase 1s. A phase 1 is an analysis of a deal from the CIM provided by the investment banker. I also work on add-on projects, spreadsheets, and overviews of different companies.
Skills
Through this internship, I have gained many skills. Firstly, I am now proficient in software used in the industry such as DealCloud, CapIQ and RocketReach. In addition, I have greatly increased my proficiency in Excel. Secondly, I am now able to analyze balance sheets and the financials of companies from the numerous Phase 1s I have worked on. Lastly, I am now able to compare company profiles and analyze deals from many different industries.
